Workforce Success

8/14/2013

Meet Nick! He is one of Trehab’s true success stories.  Nick entered the Trehab WIA Out-of-School Youth Program in October 2012.  He studied diligently for his GED and he passed the exam in May 2013.  After that accomplishment Nick learned about resumes, interviewing skills and careers in the local job market.  He was then offered a Paid Work Experience (PWE) at the Whistle Stop Restaurant.  A PWE is designed to allow an employer to teach and train individuals that are new to the workforce about the world of work.  The Whistle Stop Restaurant took Nick on to work in their kitchen as a dishwasher and to teach him what is expected by an employer.

Nick began his PWE in May 2013 and trained for four weeks.  He did well and learned a lot from his co-workers Brook, Mike, Mia, Whitney and supervisors Chris Weaver and Bernadine Morris.  Nick completed his PWE on June 6, 2013, and was hired by the Whistle Stop soon after as a full-time employee.  Nick states, “From the moment I walked in everyone was so nice and I could tell they had all worked together for a long time.  I’m really enjoying my new job.”
