Susquehanna Trehab Youth Outreach Services

On March 26th Trehab staff visited local Blue Ridge School District to present a Job Gateway workshop to juniors and seniors in the Learning Support program.  Students were given portfolios and introduced to the youth program and the services Trehab can offer.  They were then led through the process of registering and job searching on the state’s Job Gateway system, with the assistance of a Powerpoint presentation.  The morning was deemed a success by Blue Ridge’s Transition Coordinator, who spoke of an interest in future interactions.  The students were very polite and some expressed interest in either the Youth Program or one of the job positions that was reviewed.

Shortly thereafter, on April 9th, Trehab staff again interacted with Blue Ridge.  A school bus brought the secondary Life Skills students to Trehab’s Susquehanna Workforce location for a morning full of information and workshops on employment related topics.  The GED Instructor spoke about the importance of remaining in school, students participated in a career decision making activity with an EOC representative, the Employability Specialist reviewed opportunities with the natural gas industry, and the importance of grammar on job correspondence was highlighted.  Just before breaking for a pizza lunch prior to their departure, students witnessed a mock interview scenario, where most of the interviewee’s actions and answers went awry.  Staff discussed with the youth how this interview might have been improved.  The youth appeared to enjoy their field trip, and were introduced to the additional services that the Trehab Youth program could offer for interested and eligible participants.

On April 16, Trehab Susquehanna Staff visited a Susquehanna Community classroom. Once again staff spoke to the students about available services, and discussed registration and job search in the state’s Job Gateway system.  Also, students participated in a discussion about interview etiquette, and a few fielded on-the spot interview questions. The class’s instructor spoke of future collaboration.

Thanks to Blue Ridge and Susquehanna Community schools for participating in these workshops!  Check back for a link to a photo album of the events.
