Community Garden

Trehab  Food Bank now has the capacity to grow food for the community.  The agency received a beautiful state of the art greenhouse through the Area Agency on Aging, and is able to use the area adjacent to the greenhouse for garden space. We welcome community assistance and input.

We welcome your expertise and enthusiasm! The plan is to plant foods crops that are both low maintenance and productive, such as potatoes, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, etc. We would love to have starter plants and seed potatoes. Long term goals include community involvement in the garden and education on all aspects of gardening and preserving food. We have a large space in which to hold educational workshops.

We are looking to grow in knowledge and projects to introduce our community to the possibilities of increased food self sufficiency and preservation, nutrition, and cooking skills.

Additionally we welcome donations of fresh food from gardeners in our county who have fresh produce to spare. We have two food bank locations, in Montrose and Susquehanna. We serve over 1000 individuals a month at our food banks.

This is a challenging yet exciting endeavor.

Check out the garden and greenhouse photo album for pictures.  Special thanks go to everyone who has contributed to this project, including area supporters and volunteers, the Area Agency on Aging, the United Way and Top Notch Tree Care, and Erosion Control Enterprises.
